Flags are Important part of Country. A Symbol which unite the people under a common Identity. Its just not about decoration. Its Icon of the Nation. Flags of countries should be treated with respect and honor.

Colors , symbols and decoration are illustration of ideals of the country. The Indian Tricolor too have its own illustration.

Our Indian flag is Horizontal Rectangular tricolor flag. Three colors Saffron, White and Green with Ashok Chakra having 24 spoke in navy blue color at center.
Khadi and Hand-spun cloth material is allowed to be used for flag.



Three colors has its own three meanings
1) Deep Saffron -courage, sacrifice, and the spirit of renunciation
2) White -Unity, Peace
3) Green -Fertility and Prosperity of Land. Our relation to the plant life.

Ashok Chakra symbolize progress, it shows India moves forward , A peacefull progress.

Indian Flag has the interesting historical timeline. Indian flag has gone through many variations. But there are no modification after independence. The very first Flag was introduced in Kolkata with three colors Red, Yellow , Green.


August 07 1906

The first national flag in India is said to have been hoisted on August 7, 1906, in the Parsee Bagan Square (Green Park) in Calcutta.
The flag was composed of three Horizontal Strips of color Red, Yellow and green. On the yellow centered strip Devnagari words “Vande Mataram” were inscribed. Green strip had white sun on the left and crescent with star on right. Red strip had eight (8 ) stars also considered as half opened lotuses.


1907

The second flag hoisted at Paris by Madam Kama. First and second flags are very similar except in second there are 7 lotuses and one star which denotes “Saptarshi”. This flag was later exhibited at in socialist conference in Berlin too.

Dr Annie Besent and Lokmanya Tilak hoisted this flag in Home Rule moment. It had five five green and four red strips arranged alternatively. At top left corner there is Union jack. Saptarshi stars are arranged as per their position in the space. And lastly a white crescent and a star in a corner. The Union jack symbolize the Dominion status.

It had three colors White , Green and red at bottom And blue Charakha in the middle. Gandhi-ji approved this flag. Congress rejected this flag but yet it is used widely.

There were two versions. First one was not accepted by Indian National Congress :) . First flag had only one color , Saffron and a Charakha with brown or dark black color at the pole end. 1931 is the historical year to set resolution for India’s flag. Which stressed on the need of officially acceptable Flag by India National Congress.
Instead of first, second was adopted. It was Tricolor like today’s Indian flag and Gandhi-ji’s Charakha in the middle.


Flag of August 15, 1947

And lastly at the independence India adopted familiar Tricolor flag. It had been unofficially used by Indian National Congress with Charakha in the center.
